I was the first person to call on it. When I went to look at it, I knew right away it WAS a Pace Car Replica as it was the correct colors, and had the special fender badges. The owner tried to start the car, but it had been sitting for a few months and the battery was dead. As the previous owner changed out batteries, I told my wife "if it starts, I'm buying it!" The engine fired up after only a few seconds of cranking. A quick drive around the neighborhood told me it needed lots of love and attention, but it was going home with us!
While the previous owner was installing a different battery, he got his second call about the car. After I parked the car following the short test drive, the other caller pulled up. I told the owner I wanted the car, and didn't bother to haggle about the price. The previous owner told the other guy he had just sold the car, and the other guy drove away.
Since the car title was in the wife's name, I made an appointment to come back after she got off work. When we showed up to trade cash for car, the owner told me the other guy had come back after I left and offered him more money if he would back out of the deal with me. Luckily the previous owner was honorable and turned down the offer.
Some of the car's parts were still in the previous owners' attic. After several months they called us and we retrieved several more of the car's parts and pieces.
