PACE CAR REPLICA

Here's the starting point - gold "turbine" wheels.  I either want them silver to match what was originally available for the pace cars, or I want them white to be similar to the white pace car wheels... Still haven't made up my mind...

I used a chemical stripped called "Aircraft Stripper" that I got from Pep Boys.  You brush it on and it eats away the paint.  Nasty stuff.   The wheel on the right has had the stripper applied and scraped away once.   The wheel on the left is on its first application of stripper - the paint wrinkles up and gives the wheel a hairy look.

I used about three applications of the stripper to get all the paint off.  It was difficult getting a good layer of stripper on all the spokes so I wound up doing the procedure multiple times per wheel.

The factory paint kept the aluminum well protected from the elements.   I'm still not sure if I want silver or white wheels...  decisions, decisions...
