25TH ANNIVERSARY DAYTONA

PACE CAR REPLICA

Well, it's already April and I really haven't had much time to devote to the Pace Car.  I'm still stocking up on parts, though.  If I ever get the time to work on the car, I have subframe connectors, upper & lower radiator hoses, and a bunch of small stuff to install.  One of the items waiting to be installed is a Jamex brand strut tower brace.  I got it off Ebay for $30 delivered.  Didn't know if it would fit or not, but for only $30 it was a good gamble.

One of the things that has been keeping me from my Pace Car is my 5th wheel camper - the floor over the hitch had water intrusion and the floor rotted out.   I've been rebuilding the camper for the last two weeks.  When the Jamex strut bar arrived, I just had to see if my gamble paid off!  I took some non-hardening sealant putty from the camper project and used it to hold down the mounting brackets for the strut tower brace as I adjusted it.  Guess what?  IT FITS!  Here's some pics of the Jamex bar "mounted" with sticky putty.

The Jamex bar clears every obstruction, and the hood even closes..

The brackets have a little bit of up-and-down adjustability.  The passenger side is adjusted to the top of the bracket and the driver's side is adjusted to the lowest setting.

The bar parallels the front edge of the air cleaner.

The passenger side of the bar clears the air conditioner hose with about an eighth of an inch to spare.

It also clears the air cleaner by about a half inch, minimum.

The Jamex bar did not come with mounting hardware, so another trip to Pep Boys is called for.  Once I finish rebuilding the camper, and get back from vacation, I should (crossed-fingers) get back to working on the Pace Car.
