Cathi Arnold
Cathi Arnold, Club Program Coordinator, moved to Santa Barbara December 1992 from San Clemente, CA.
Cathi's move to Santa Barbara was instigated by her sister, Linda, (a 30 year employee at UCSB in Biology). She had recently graduated with a BS in Nursing and applied for a job at
St. Francis Medical Center as Emergency Department Director. Cathi was the Director of ED, but the CCU (Critical Care Unit), the FBC (Family Birth Center), Respiratory Therapy, and the Nursing Supervisors - until she was eventually appointed Director of Nursing.
Cathi enjoyed her 30-year career in nursing; however, the financial uncertainty of St. Francis led her to look into something else - that being a Masters Degree in Organizational Management. With that in hand she began to look at different types of positions. She applied and was hired as the MSO for Biological Science. She is really happy here at UCSB - and says it is a great place to work!
Cathi's other life is her two daughters. Amy lives in San Francisco and just finished law school; and Jill who lives with her husband, Scott, and their two children Tessa (3), and Evan (1) in Concord. She LOVES BEING A GRAMMY!!!!! Consequently, she spends a lot of time in the Bay Area much to the unhappiness of her cat - Whitecat.
Her other interests are serving on the board of the American Heart Association, as well as on the board of the UCSB Optimist Club. Cathi told herself when she moved to Santa Barbara that she would become involved in the community and that she has. Cathi is also a co-chair for the UCSB United Way Campaign and supports the Museum of Art, Botanical Garden, Natural History Museum, Santa Barbara Zoo, and Lotusland.
"Optimist Creed" Promise yourself •To be so strong nothing disturbs your peace of mind
•To talk health, happiness, and prosperity to everyone you meet
•To make all your friends feel like there is something in them
• To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true
•To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and expect only the best
•To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.
• To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
• To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile.
• To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others.
• To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
