Victor Bartolome
Optimist Club Treasurer
The Treasurer for the Optimist Club at UCSB shouldn't have any trouble collecting dues… in fact; Victor Bartolome has spent nearly 22 years successfully collecting money for the campus in the Student Loan Collections Office. But "Vic" isn't the typical "strong arm" kind of collector; he's the kind of guy who is so kind and compassionate that you just want to give your money to him! Vic was born and raised in Santa Barbara, and left in 1966 to play basketball for Oregon State University as their starting Center. He played pro ball
overseas in Italy and The Netherlands, as well as in the NBA for the Golden State Warriors, before retiring from the game in 1978. He returned to live on the street where he grew up in Santa Barbara, next to his alma mater, SB High. He began his career at UCSB two years later. Vic loves his marriage to Barbara Bartolomé (UCSB, GGSE School-University Partnerships) and their five children are all a continuous source of amusement, great memories, and pride. They currently attend SBCC, UCSB, Cal Poly, SB High, and Roosevelt School and they all keep him busy with their myriad of interests and activities.
"Optimist Creed" Promise yourself •To be so strong nothing disturbs your peace of mind
•To talk health, happiness, and prosperity to everyone you meet
•To make all your friends feel like there is something in them
• To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true
•To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and expect only the best
•To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.
• To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
• To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile.
• To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others.
• To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
