CANNED FOOD DRIVE

Thank you to everyone for a very successful canned food drive! With all of our various food drop off locations on campus, combined with a generous food donation from the GIVE Project, we were able to collect enough canned goods to fill 28 copy paper boxes! WOW! And all of this benefits the IVYP Family Resource Center! We couldn't have done this without everyone's help, so thank you!

**A special thanks to Mark Weinsoff and Tony Tieu for picking up the canned goods from the GIVE Project and bringing it back to campus- there were a ton of cans, and you guys powered it through in an hour!

CANCER WARD GIFT BAG PROJECT:

Thank you all for your participation in our previous Optimist Club @ UCSB's fundraiser for the Cancer Ward Gift Bag project. We raised $387.50 from the California Pizza Kitchen event, and with that money, we were able to purchase 3 gameboys (Nintendo DS) and 19 games for the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital Pediatric Oncology Ward!!! In addition, we delivered 75 gift bags to the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital Pediatric Oncology Ward. These gift bags consisted of art supplies, books and toys -- over half of which were donated by YOU!!! An article (with photo) was written in the Santa Barbara News-Press on December 10, 2007.

"Optimist Creed"
Promise yourself

To be so strong nothing disturbs your peace of mind
To talk health, happiness, and prosperity to everyone you meet
To make all your friends feel like there is something in them
• To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true
To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and expect only the best

To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.
• To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
• To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile.
• To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others.
• To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
