THE COPPLE FAMILY TREE

PREFACE: This was originally written by Enos E. Copple of Omak, Washington. To him goes the credit for doing all the work this represents, with the exception of the 2c James Alexandria branch of the family. I wish to record my deep sense of gratitude to Mr. & Mrs. Tony J. Copple (lld) and Mrs. Walter W. Reed (l0d) for their valuable help in assembling the names of descendants of my grandfather, James Alexander Copple.

The first named John Copple is said to have come from Germany and to have settled in North Carolina, afterward moving to Clark County, Indiana. From there he and the family moved to Southern Illinois. His son, John, settled at Walnut Hill. His descendants are known as the Walnut Hill Copples. The youngest son, Dave, settled about three miles southeast of Centralia. The other son, Phillip, is so far lost. I have been unable to locate anyone who can be traced back to Phillip. Mr. Simpson Copple of Hood River, Oregon, thinks that possibly Phillip moved into Jefferson County, Illinois. There are many Copples in Jefferson County, but as yet I have been unable to hear from them. There is a lot of work that can be done yet on the tree, so you see I need all the help I can get. The biggest obstacle to it is that people are indifferent about answering letters.

My great grandmother Dolson told me about the Copples having come from Germany. However, just recently I have learned that there are many Copples in Southern England. I don't know whether a relationship can be established.
