Johanna Munderloh Copple
November 9, 1888 - August 26, 1973
Funeral services were held for Johanna M. Copple Tuesday, August 28, 1973; St. Paul's Lutheran Church; Bancroft, Nebraska; at 2:00 p.m. Clergyman officiating: Rev. Henry W. Nierman. Organist: Mrs. Myron Plambeck; Vocalist: Bob Rabe. Interment: Bancroft Cemetery; Bancroft, Nebraska. Pallbearers: Lawrence Wagner, Jay Munderloh, William Copple, Royce Munderloh, Marvin Gatzemeyer, and Richard Munderloh.
Mrs. Johanna Copple was born Nov. 9, 1888 in the farm home of her parents South of Bancroft. She was one of ten children born to John Munderloh and his wife Helen Ottemann. As an infant of less than two months her parents brought her to the Lord Jesus and she was received as God's dear child in Holy Baptism. This was at Zion Lutheran Church by Pastor William Harms. Her childhood days were spent at home where her faith in Christ was also nourished. She' received her schooling at Zion Christian Day School. Here also she received her confirmation instruction and on May 11, 1902 she confirmed her faith in Christ and promised to remain faithful to Jesus until death. After her confirmation she continued to live at home with her parents. Later on before-her marriage she worked as a young woman for a time in California..
On September 3, 1913 she was united in marriage to Harry Copple at Zion Lutheran Church by Pastor Harms. This marriage was blest with four children: Hal, James Hyle, June, and Harriet. After they 'were married they farmed East of Rosalie, Nebraska until her husbands death in 1920. She then moved with her family South of Bancroft near her parents. Here her children grew up. Later she and her children moved into Bancroft with her father. She lived in Bancroft the remainder of her life.
Mrs. Copple enjoyed good health most of her life. One year ago she was hospitalized but returned home in reasonable health and even lived by herself for a time. Last week she entered the hospital in Pender, the last time and-here the Lord called her from this life early Sunday morning August 26, 1973.
She was preceded in death by her husband on July 28, 1920, and her brothers: Herman and Rudolph, and a sister: Mrs. Molly Wegner. She leaves to mourn her children: Hal of Lincoln, James Hyle of Santa Maria, California; June, Mrs. Lyle Mullens of Flagstaff, Arizona, and Harriet, Mrs. Art Ortmann of Bancroft; also 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She leaves to mourn aIso her brothers: Jack of Pender, Otto of Bancroft, Alfred of Baca Raton, Florida, and Walter of Wisner; and sisters: Bertha, Mrs. Frank Buchholz and Frieda, Mrs. Charles Copple, both Of Lyons, Nebraska.
Mrs. Copple served as a past president of St. Paul's Ladies Aid and Altar Guild. She was presently a member of the Aid and Sewing Circle.
