After a severe illness of four weeks duration and much suffering, Mrs. Martha Lindemann found the eternal rest she was craving and praying for when her death occurred Monday afternoon, February 25th, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George E. Ortmann. She was accorded the honor of a Christian burial last Thursday afternoon; following divine services at the home and at the Lutheran church her body was laid to rest in the Bancroft cemetery, to slumber in peace until the Day of Resurrection. The Rev. W. E. Homann officiated at the funeral services, delivering the sermon in both the German and English languages according to Isaiah 3, 10: "Say ye to the righteous, that it shall be well with them: for they shall eat the fruit of their doings."
The deceased, Anna Martha Lindemann, nee Graf, was born in Trubenhsusen, Hessen Nassau, German, February 1, 1843, where she became a child of God through baptism, received her instruction in a Christian school and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She came to America with her parents in the year 1859 and made her home in St. Louis county, Mo. Here she entered into the bonds of holy matrimony with: Florentz Gottlieb Blome in March 1859. Their happy wedded life was blessed with nine children, only four of whom survive her; these are Mrs. Anna Ortmann of Bancroft, Mrs. Frederika Mueller and Mrs. Louise Mueller of St. Louis, Mo., and Mrs. Caroline Vossenkemper of Black Jack, St. Louis county, Mo.
Some time after the death of her first husband, occurring March 17, 1877, she was married to Konrad Lindemann. This union was blessed with three children, of whom two sons, George and Frank Lindemann of Hartington, Neb., are still living.
After the death of her second husband, July, 1890, she lived for a number of years with her sister Mrs. Elizabeth Ramspot, in Back Jack, Mo., and after spending several more years with her daughters, Mrs. Vossenkamper in the same locality, and Mrs. red Muller in St. Louis, Mo., she came to Bancroft in the fall of 1914 to make her home with her daughter Mrs. George E. Ortmann. It was at the latter's home that sickness and death made their appearance and took her from her loved ones and friends.
The deceased won the friendship of many during her short sojourn here in Bancroft by her sweet ways and loving disposition, and the admiration of all who knew her by her truly Christian character and her tireless activity in the interest of the local Lutheran church as a member of the Lutheran Ladies Aid Society and, during the last few months of her life, by her knitting for the Red Cross. Both organizations paid their last respects to a valuable member by floral offerings at her funeral. Above all else, the deceased believed and trusted for salvation in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and died in that faith. Hence we are assured that he death was gain to her.
Grandma Lindemann attained an age of 75 years and 24 days and leaves 6 children, 4 stepchildren, 27 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren to mourn her death.
Out-of-town relatives present the funeral were Mrs. Fred and Mrs. Will Mueller of St. Louis, Mo., Mrs. Henry Vossenkamper of Mo., George and Frank Lindemann of Hartington, Neb. Wm. Lindemann of Russell, Iowa, Conrad Lindemann of Foster, Neb., Fred Lindemann, of. Wisner, Mrs. L. Blome and Matilda of Fremont, Emma Blome of Omaha, Wm. Blome of Beemer and H. E. Blome of Dalton, Neb.
