The Munderloh Family from Woeftenland in Oldenburg, Germany

The Munderloh Family certainly came from Munderloh, which is an old village in the parish of Hatten 10 miles from Oldenburg. The first bearer of the name is Ecbertus de Munderlo, a knight and follower of Count Otto of Oldenburg, in 1249. Then there are Hermann in 1259, Conradus and Henricus in 1295, Ludolfus in 1336, Conradus in 1354, Ludelof in 1398 and, the last of this gentry family Hermann von Munderlo in 1437. As the Counts in Oldenburg became too powerful the nobility either left the county or they became farmers again. About the same time, in 1428, we find the first farmer Johan Munderloh at Hatten, then Eylart also there in 1489.

The first Munderloh in the native village of our family, at Oberhausen in the parish of Holle, also called Woestenland i.e. Wilderness is:

Hinrich Munnerlo, farmer at Oberhausen (farm no. 22) in Woestenlande. In 1542 he delivered 10 bushels of rye to his ruler, Bishop Francis of Munster, likewise in 1552 to Count Anton of Oldenburg, who re-conquered his county in 1547. At the inspection of 1581 Hinrich Munderlo is armed with a pike.

Wichman Munderlaw, farmer at Oberhausen (no. 22), died before 1625 (probably of plague). From 1593 to 1617 he pays his interests to Holle Church, in 1609 and 1619 he presents a gun and a halberd. His wife Gesche, householder since 1625, died in 1639.

Johan Munderlaw (Munderlo), farmer at Oberhausen (no. 5), died in 1647. Married November 15, 1618, Gesche Meyer, widow of Harm Meyer, farmer at Oberh, died in 1649. Johan paid his taxes to Count Anton Gunther (1603-1667), then Germany's greatest horse breeder.

Harmen M, dike-reeve and farmer at Oberhausen (no. 5), 1620-1677. Married 1646 (27.6), Beka Kroges, 1620-1707. The farm, 80 acres, was the second largest of the 23 farms at Oberhausen.

Johann M, dike-reeve, churchwarden and farmer at Oberhausen (no. 5) 1663-1733. "He was truly Christian man and died of (gall) stone". Married 1688 (15.6), Helle Sur from Holle, 1668-1728.

Johann M, dike-reeve and farmer at Oberhausen, (no. 5) 1705-69. Married 1731 (20.6) Anna Hattermann, (died 1752), dowry 500 Talers, 2 horses, etc. Married 1752 (26.70) Gebke Lutjen, (died 1780), dowry 400 Talers, 2 horses, etc. Both from Oberhausen.

Hinrich M, dike-reeve, churchwarden, and farmer at Oberhausen (no. 5) 1739-1823. Married 1775, Gesche Gramberg from Dingtede, 1754-1837.

Hinrich M, dike-reeve and farmer at Oberhausen (no. 5) 1781-1857. Married 1804 (5.7), Gesche Suhr from Wusting, died 1813. Married 1814 Grete Monnich from Oberhausen, died 1820. Married 1827 (7.6) Triene Monnich from Oberhausen, died 1869.

Hinrich M, marshsettler at Drielakermoor, 1806-1861. Married 1841, Margarete Rische from Moorhausen, went to USA in 1872.

Johanna M, went to USA in 1872 at age 12 with parents. Farmer, 1859-1944. Married Helene Ottemann from Tweelbake.
