Overall
Thoughts:
I really love NBR. The main
reason I love it is because it is the first major precursor of the year
and it is the kickstart to Oscar season. And with that, the phrase
"Who the hell knows?" should be stated millions of times. We
have no idea what they will pick because we have no prior awards or
anything to play off of. We do know that Munich will be the last
thing they see. I don't think it will be enough to stop Brokeback
Moutain though. This group has NEVER shyed away from giving
homosexual-themed movies or movies with homosexual followings their big
award. I don't think this year will be any different. I am starting to
think though that their love for period pieces as well (last year they
gave it to Neverland and gave it to Quills and Sense
& Sensibility in the past) might lead them to give it to Pride
& Prejudice. Look out for Crash too. They are gonna eat it
up. I could see them giving it to Good Night as well. We know that
in the past the one that wins top film honors here goes on to be nominated
for BP (but not win). Another trend to notice with these is how often the
one who wins Actor will go on and not get nominated, save the past couple
of years. The one who wins Actress will be nominated, which is why I don't
think Joan Allen is winning. And usually always if someone wins Director
here, no Oscar love. Hence the prediction of Terrence Mallick. And I don't
know why, but I think Chris Columbus could win too for Rent. Don't
know why. So, without
further hesitation... My
