Past PAC Band performances:
Grace University sponsored the second annual "An Evening of
Brass" at the Suckau Chapel on the Grace University campus, on March
14, 2003. The concert featured brass groups from Grace University, the
Nebraska Wind Symphony, and the PAC Band. The following PAC Band members performed at the concert:
Jerry Johnson -
Trumpet Dave Kulisek - Trumpet
Jerry Camacho - Trumpet
Jeff Tasker -
French Horn
Bob Fry - Euphonium Gene
Brong - Trombone
Cindy Schram - Trombone Rick Turner - Trombone
Ben Fry - Tuba
Despite 8 inches of snow the day prior, the show did go
on! Our annual Winter Concert took place in the Papillion-LaVista High
Scool auditorium on February 16, 2003. It was a wonderful concert,
featuring the talents of two guest performers: Trombone soloist TSgt
Tom Eckert from the USAF Heartland of America Band at Offutt Air Force Base;
and vocal soloist Elaine Kalal Stoner in her 5th appearance with the PAC
Band. Tom played "Variations on 'Let Me Call You
Sweetheart'", a piece he wrote. The audience sat in awe at the
speed at which he whipped out his "variations"! Elaine sang
the always popular "Star Dust", followed by George & Ira
Gershwin's "They Can't Take That Away From Me". She then led
the audience in a "Patriotic Sing-Along", which included the
appearance of a 60-foot U.S. flag during "It's a Grand Old Flag" -
that brought the audience to its feet. We finished the concert with a
beautiful arrangement of "The Star Spangled Banner".
In the high school cafeteria, the PAC Band Dixieland Band performed for
those eating spaghetti during the annual Lion's Club Spaghetti Feed
fund-raiser.
Despite the threat of rain & an unusually cool August
evening, we had one of our largest crowds of the year at our Concert in the
Park on August 18, 2002. Over 200 people sat in lawn chairs or on
blankets to listen to some marches, some John Williams movie music, a waltz
& a polka, and an expressive spiritual. The PAC Band appreciated
the enthusiastic standing ovation at the end, which encouraged us to play
one last march as an encore.
The PAC Band performed the music for the "march
in" of over 800 athletes at the National Junior Olympics on Wednesday,
July 24, 2002 at the Burke High School stadium. Three superb trumpet
players from various organizations joined us to help "beef up" our
sound in the large stadium. Thank-you to them as well as the 34
members of the PAC Band who volunteered to play a mid-week, evening
performance! We played a number of marches and patriotic music.
We would also like to thank the local organizers of the National Junior
Olympics for their generous donation to the PAC Band!
For the fourth year (including a previous
"rain-out"), the PAC Band provided the music for the opening
ceremonies for the Sarpy County Relay for Life sponsored by the American
Cancer Society on Friday, June 21, 2002 on the Bellevue West High School
track. A strong breeze played havoc on our sound, making it difficult
to hear across the track, but the applause by the nearby walkers on the
track showed the sound was getting out! It was a hot evening, so
thanks to all those who participated.
Papillion Days, our city's annual community celebration
(organized & sponsored by the Papillion
Community Foundation), usually keeps the PAC Band busy, and this year
was no exception. Friday night, June 14, 2002, the PAC Band's
Dixieland Band played an hour's worth of great Dixieland music to a very
appreciative crowd. The following day, a small group of 15 from the
PAC Band rode on the back of a truck in the Papillion Days Parade playing
Karl King marches to the enthusiastic crowd along the route. Finally,
on Sunday, June 16, the full PAC Band performed in front of over 200 people
sitting at picnic tables and in lawn chairs. In addition to enjoying
the music, the crowd also lined up to get some great dessert from the St
Paul United Methodist Church Ice Cream Social in the adjoining pavilion.
A big thanks to all those participating in the three performances - you
really help to put the "celebrate" in this community
celebration! Also, thank you to Ken Molzer (our Director) &
Nancy Moore (clarinet) for volunteering their time serving in the Papillion
Community Foundation's Information Booth.
The PAC Band Brass Choir performed at "An Evening of
Brass," sponsored by Grace University on Tuesday, May 7, 2002 at
Brookside Church. This was the first time our Brass Choir has
performed with other Brass Choirs, and Ken Molzer (PAC Band Director) had
the following to say: "Thank you and congratulations on a very fine
performance and representing our band in such an outstanding way!"
The following members performed at the concert:
Gary Jack -
Trumpet
Dave Kulisek - Trumpet
Dick Kaiser - Trumpet & Baritone Jeff Tasker -
French Horn
Bob Wills - French
Horn
Rick Turner - Trombone
Andy Walters - Tuba
Thanks also to Carol Curry (French Horn) who devoted a number of hours to
our rehearsals, but had to bow out at the last minute due to a sudden,
serious illness in her family. Special thanks go out to Bob Wills
& Andy Walters who stepped in at the last minute (to replace Carol Curry
& Tom Sibbitt). Despite practicing with us for only 45 minutes (3 days
before the concert), they both played superbly, not missing a beat!!!
Thanks Bob & Andy! A few other PAC Band members performed at the
concert for the Nebraska Wind Symphony, playing some outstanding Brass
selections: Tony Holland (trumpet), Gene Brong (trombone), Cindy Schram
(trombone), and Jim Kuehl (tuba - last-minute substitute for Tuba
Tom). It truly was an "Evening of Brass"!
Our annual Winter Concert, Sunday, February 17, 2002, took
place on a beautiful, sunny day, in the Papillion-LaVista High School
Auditorium. The theme for the concert, "Americans We," was
well rooted in the selection of marches, hymns, and popular songs from some
of our country's best known composers and arrangers. Making the
afternoon even more special were the guest performers who joined us:
Mr. Rob McCartney and Ms. Jamie Godby. Rob, an anchorman for KETV-7 in
Omaha (and former baritone player at Papillion Junior High), narrated the
word's to Copland's "Lincoln Portrait" while the PAC Band
performed "Lincoln Legacy." He topped off the superb
performance by re-appearing on-stage dressed as Lincoln, to finish the
narration. Jamie, an actor on numerous local stages (and former
clarinet player at LaVista Junior High, as well as drum major at
Papillion-LaVista High School) sang two pieces to the accompaniment of
"her 55-piece band" (the PAC Band, of course). Her
performance of "As Time Goes By" conjured up memories of Bogart
& Bergman in "Casablanca," and conjured up applause when Ken
Molzer (the PAC Band director) danced with her on-stage during the musical
interlude. She then put a "smile" on the audience with her
upbeat rendition of "Put on a Happy Face." The PAC Band
deeply appreciates the professional talents shared by our special guests and
looks forward to performing with them again -- THANK YOU Rob &
Jamie!!! The concert ended with Sousa's always popular "Stars and
Stripes Forever." The PAC Band received a standing ovation from
the over 200 members of the audience -- always appreciated from our
"hometown" crowd!
Sunday, September 9, 2001, was another beautiful day for a
concert and a walk -- a Walk-A-Thon, that is! The Papillion Junior
Women's Club sponsored and organized a successful fund raising event which
raised over $1400 for the Walnut Creek Amphitheater. The PAC Band
whole-heartedly appreciates and thanks the Papillion Junior Women's Club for
donating their time, skill, and enthusiasm toward this community
project! Those who participated in the Walk-A-Thon were able to hear
the tunes played by the PAC Band, the Papillion-LaVista High School Band,
and the Nebraska Wind Symphony's Swingtones, as they walked the 3-mile loop
around the lake throughout the afternoon. The only way the event could
have been better is if these performances were actually taking place in the
Amphitheater. With continued community support, it will happen
soon!!!
The final "Concert in the Park" for 2001, on
August 16, 2001. This concert in the City Park was on a beautiful
Sunday evening -- clear skies, setting sun, mid-70's. light breeze, low
humidity! Over 200 people set up their lawn chairs, or sat in the
grass, to hear a nice variety of music (including TWO Karl King marches for
an encore). The Band really appreciated the standing ovation from
their friends, family, and neighbors!

Papillion-La Vista High School Auditorium. Held in conjunction with the annual
Papillion Lion's Club Spaghetti
Feed, this annual concert had a variety of music representing each decade of the 20th
century. Over 200 people attended. Two very special guests joined us: Elaine
Kalal-Stoner making her fourth appearance with the PAC Band sang "Over the
Rainbow" (from the Wizard of Oz) and "But Not for Me" (a
swingin' Gershwin
piece); and Rob McCartney, news anchorman for KETV, Channel 7, in his
second appearance with the PAC Band, narrated the events of each decade. Elaine's
beautiful voice & Rob's memorable and humorous anecdotes well received by an
enthusiastic audience. The PAC Band looks forward to future performances with these
professionals! In addition to the concert, the Dixieland
Band provided an hour of entertainment at the Spaghetti Feed in the high school

The Dixieland Band played a one hour concert for
Papillion Days on a warm Friday evening, June 18, 1999.
The Mid-America Band Camp held at Omaha South High

with their instruments to play the last two numbers!

Creek, the new lake and park on the southern edge of Papillion, will be the site of the
