2000-2001 Paloma PTA Standing Committees
Please contact the appropriate PTA board
member for additional information about or to volunteer to help with
any of the committees listed here.
Special event committees are covered on a separate
web page that includes information about each event.
Arts & Culture Committee
The goal of this committee is to supplement the school's arts curriculum
through PTA sponsored events related to the arts. One possible event is the
Reflections
Program, which is currently sponsored by the
National PTA.
Donations Committee
This committee is responsible for seeking donations from a variety of
sources to minimize costs associated with the activities and events of
the Paloma PTA. Last year we received a considerable donation from
Mervyn's California.
Wouldn't it be great to find more companies willing to provide
financial support for our school?
Kyrene de la Paloma is a great school, but it has the potential to be
so much more.
Election Issues Committee
This committee of politically-minded people is responsible for
communicating issues of concern, related to upcoming elections, to the
general membership of the Paloma PTA and the Paloma community. This
committee works closely with the Legislative
Liaison Committee, but focuses on specific election issues,
rather than activities of our current government body. Currently,
the most significant issue is Proposition 301.
We are currently in need a chairperson
for this committee.
Grocery Rebates Committee
There are many programs available to public schools to earn money or
supplies by redeeming grocery receipts and food labels. This committee
collects and submits grocery receipts,
Big G box tops, and
Campbell's soup labels.
Health and Welfare Committee
This committee is responsible for promoting health, welfare, and safety
awareness.
Kyrene School Board Liaison Committee
This is the local version of the Legislative Liaison Committee. The goal
of this committee is to keep PTA members informed of current issues
facing the Kyrene School Board, as well as opportunities to participate.
This is also a non-partisan committee.
Legislative Liaison Committee
This committee monitors education-related activities in the state
legislature and informs Paloma PTA members of current issues and ways
to participate in the legislative process. While individual committee
members may have their own opinions, this (like all official PTA
activities) is a non-partisan effort. The goal of this committee is to
keep PTA members informed and to encourage participation, not to lobby
for any particular side of an issue.
Membership Committee
This committee promotes membership and
maintains membership records for the Paloma PTA.
Nominating Committee
This committee is formed two months prior to electing a new board and
is responsible for nominating interested candidates for board
positions. Additional nominations will also be taken prior to voting.
Additional information can be found in the
Paloma PTA bylaws.
Portable Classroom Improvements Committee
This committee is responsible for the investigative process of
brainstorming improvement possibilities, determining district, school,
and financial requirements for various suggestions, and submitting
improvement proposals to the PTA. This committee should be able to
take advantage of some of the learnings of the Teachers' Lounge
Renovation Subcommittee of the Teacher Appreciation
Committee. We are currently in need a
chairperson for this committee.
Sort, Collate, Copy, Staple, and Stuff Committee
This committee is responsible for handling the bulk paperwork necessary
for communication with parents and teachers. Most work can be done from
home, but some trips to school are required for pick-up/drop-off and
copying. We are currently in need a chairperson
for this committee.
Teacher Appreciation Committee
This committee is responsible for activities throughout the year that are
geared toward showing the Paloma teachers and staff that we appreciate their
efforts on behalf of the children of Paloma Elementary. Some of the activities
that are typically planned include the following:
