2001-2002 Paloma PTA Standing Committees & Coordinators

Please contact the appropriate PTA board member for additional information about or to volunteer to help with any of the committees listed here.

Special event committees are covered on a separate web page that includes information about each event.

Donations Committee

This committee is responsible for seeking donations from a variety of sources to minimize costs associated with the activities and events of the Paloma PTA. This committee has several members, but is in need of a chairperson. Please contact a board member or volunteer coordinator for more information.

Fundraising Coordinators

These volunteers organize the fall fundraiser. Last year's catalog fundraiser raised over $11,000! This year's fundraiser will be coordinated by Cindy Corbett, Heidi Sill, and Diane Astorino.

Health and Welfare Committee

This committee, led by Lorraine Holmes, is responsible for promoting health, welfare, and safety awareness.

Kyrene School Board Liaisons

This is the local version of the Legislative Liaisons. The goal of these volunteers is to keep PTA members informed of current issues facing the Kyrene School Board, as well as opportunities to participate. This is also a non-partisan committee. Our school board liaisons are Teri Smith and Beth Doney.

Labels & Receipts Coordinators

There are many programs available to public schools to earn money or supplies by redeeming grocery receipts and food labels. These volunteers collect and submit grocery receipts, Big G box tops, and Campbell's soup labels. Our labels and receipts coordinators for this year are Cindy Corbett and Emily Davis.

Legislative Liaisons

These volunteers monitor education-related activities in the state legislature and inform Paloma PTA members of current issues and ways to participate in the legislative process. While individual liaisons may have their own opinions, this (like all official PTA activities) is a non-partisan effort. The goal is to keep PTA members informed and to encourage participation, not to lobby for any particular side of an issue. Martha Garner is our legislative liaison this year.

Membership Committee

This committee promotes membership and maintains membership records for the Paloma PTA. The co-chairs for this committee are Jane Johnson and Diane Astorino.

Newsletter Editors

In the past, the Paloma PTA newsletter has been written and edited by the board. This year, Jennifer Pope will edit the newsletter with the help of Jane Johnson and Heidi Hutchens. These volunteers will also assist with the creation of flyers for various Paloma PTA events.

Nominating Committee

This committee is formed two months prior to electing a new board and is responsible for nominating interested candidates for board positions. Additional nominations will also be taken prior to voting. Additional information can be found in the Paloma PTA bylaws.

Parent Superintendent Meeting Representatives

These volunteers will attend the monthly meetings with the superintendent. These meetings are held at district schools. Paloma attendees will be Beth Doney, Sandy Hughes, and Debbie Striker.

Reflections Committee

This committee is responsible for running the school's Reflections Program. To read more about this national art program, visit our Reflections Page or the National PTA Reflections Program web page.

This will be our second year participating in this program. Last year, one of our entries made it all the way to the national level. To see this entry, visit the Arizona PTA's Reflections Page. Tadessa's visual arts entry is the first one shown on this page. We will also exhibit all of last year's entries at the Ice Cream Social on September 21, 2001. Please join us for this event, which will include the kick-off of this year's Paloma PTA Reflections Program.

To volunteer to help with this program, please contact Melinda Brown, the Reflections Program Coordinator or a board member.

SchoolPop.com Coordinator

Jill Johnson will continue in this role, in which she communicates with the SchoolPop.com organizers and encourages parent usage of their rebate program and enrollment drives. In addition to rebates from on-line purchases made by parents through the SchoolPop.com web site, Paloma parents last year earned a $250 Barnes & Noble gift certificate for the library during the September Tell-a-friend promotion.

Sort, Collate, Copy, Staple, and Stuff Committee

This committee is responsible for handling the bulk paperwork necessary for communication with parents and teachers. Most work can be done from home, but some trips to school are required for pick-up/drop-off and copying. We are currently in need a chairperson for this committee. Please contact a board member or volunteer coordinator for more information.

Teacher Appreciation Committee

This committee, led by Beth Doney, is responsible for activities throughout the year that are geared toward showing the Paloma teachers and staff that we appreciate their efforts on behalf of the children of Paloma Elementary. Some of the activities that are typically planned include the following:

Volunteer Coordinators

These volunteers recruit other volunteers for the committees and events sponsored by the Paloma PTA. Volunteers are also sought to assist the teachers and administration of Paloma Elementary. We currently only have one volunteer coordinator, Heidi Hutchens. If you would like to help in this effort, please contact a
board member or Heidi for more information.

Webmaster & web editors

These volunteers publish information relating the Paloma PTA and Paloma Elementary School on the
Paloma PTA Web Site: www.palomapta.org. The web site is currently designed and updated by Melinda Brown. If you would like to assist or have ideas, please contact a board member or the webmaster.
