2001-2002 Paloma PTA Events

Please contact the appropriate PTA board member for additional information about or to volunteer to help with any of the events listed here.

Meet Your Teacher Night

While this program is organized by the Kyrene School District, it is also your first chance to meet the new Paloma PTA Board. We'll be in the school library throughout the evening. Use this opportunity to find out more about all of the committees and events highlighted on this web site. We'll also be selling Paloma T-shirts and enrolling members for the 2001-2002 school year.

Come check us out!

This event is scheduled for Thursday, August 16, 2001, from 5:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. To reduce congestion in the kindergarten classrooms, please follow the following schedule:

Morning kindergarten: 5:30-6:15 p.m.
Afternoon kindergarten: 6:15-7:00 p.m.

First Day Reception

A reception will be held for parents to welcome them to Paloma. This event will occur on August 20th, the first day of school, from 7:45 to 9:00 am in the school library. Rosa Lothrop will organize this event. To help, contact Rosa or a board member.

These night-time meetings are organized by the school to provide a time for teachers to present the curriculum to parents in an adult-only environment. Day care is provided by the PTA for potty-trained children aged 3 and up.

Why: To have fun, of course!

See you there!

Paloma PTA Reflections Program

This is an arts program sponsored by the National PTA. The program at Paloma Elementary will again be coordinated by Melinda Brown. A judging coordinator is needed to assist with this program. Additional volunteers are needed to prepare entries for judging and to organize a reception and exhibit.

Last year, this program began in the late fall with the distribution of information, rules, and deadlines to parents and teachers, with entries due after the winter break. To allow for greater participation and a less hectic judging and exhibition period, we will be starting this program much earlier in the school year. We would like to complete the judging before Winter Break and have the reception and exhibit in January. Look for more information at the Ice Cream Social. For complete details, please refer to the Reflections page.

Bikes & Blades

This event has been organized by a seasonal committee in the past. This year we have formed a new standing committee to focus on health and welfare throughout the school year. The Health and Welfare Committee will be supporting this event, which will be coordinated by Terrina Storm, and will be combined with a Health Fair.

This event will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2001.

We are still in need of a committee chairperson for the Health and Welfare Committee!

Kids Craft & Holiday Fun Day

This is a new event. While details are still in the works, the idea is to provide a fun time for children while parents take care of holiday errands. We'll post more information as this event solidifies.

This event is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, December 8, 2001.

Volunteer Appreciation Reception

This reception will be held in the Paloma library in January (either the 15th or 16th) from 7:15 am until 8:00 am. All volunteers are invited to drop off their children at the school and stop by before work for coffee and pastries, compliments of the Paloma PTA. Thanks for giving "a slice of your time."

Parent Academy

This event is sponsored by the Paloma PTA to provide an opportunity for parents to learn from professionals about various issues related to family health, nutrition, education, child development, and parenting. Registration forms will be sent home next week with the conference schedule and details of each presentation.

Gazing at the Stars

This is a new event with no cost. Families are encouraged to bring a picnic and watch the stars come out. The PTA is sponsoring a company to come out and set up telescopes, provide a short presentation, and give participants a chance to see different planets through the telescopes.

This event is scheduled for February 19, 2002. The time will be announced.

Spring Carnival

This event is organized by a seasonal committee, led this year by Jill Johnson and Dusti Carroll.

The Spring Carnival will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2002, from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. There will be a variety of activities, including games, rides, food, and free entertainment. Bring the whole family for a fun day at Paloma!
