The first question was a renewal of the existing maintenance and operations (M&O) override. This override will continue to provide the district with about $6.8 million per year over and above the funds allocated by the state. About 90% of this money is currently used to pay salaries and benefits for district employees.
The second question proposed a new override. This override will raise an additional $3.4 million per year for the district and will be designated specifically to fund new programs for grades K-3. Currently, three areas being considered for these funds are: class size reduction, increased enrollment in all-day kindergarten, and supplemental programs in either math or literacy. The new override would add about $3.00 per month to property taxes for a house worth $150,000.
