Kyrene de la Paloma PTA Web Site Information
Web Help Needed
If you are interested in
maintaining and improving the Paloma PTA web site, please email the webmaster or
contact a PTA board member. Several tasks, including brainstorming,
proofreading, and information gathering, do not require any web publishing
knowledge. If there is sufficient interest, limited tutorials may be offered for those interested in learning more about
simple web publishing.
Known Issue - URL masking
The domain forwarding/masking is intended to re-direct visitors to the local URL
(currently http://members.cox.net/palompta)
and mask the local URL so that
http://www.palomapta.org is seen instead. This allows the flexibility to change
the local URL as needed (moving servers or service providers) without visitors
noticing. This works great for the main page, but does not show accurate URLs
for sub-pages. For example, instead of seeing http://www.palomapta.org/meetings.html,
you would still see the main URL displayed. Also, attempts to refresh a sub-page
result in refreshing the main page and returning to it.
The most complete work-around for both problems is to avoid the masking. This
can be done by clicking on the local URL link and saving this in your Favorites
(or bookmarks). Continue to use the local URL unless it stops working. If that
happens, come back to
http://www.palomapta.org to see if we've moved to a new server.
Another way to view the actual URL of a page is to
use your browser to view it. Using Internet Explorer, you can place your curser
over a link and view the URL at the bottom of the browser. You can also
right-click and select Properties for this and more information.
Another way to force a page to download a fresh copy is to clean out your
cache (stored files from sites you've visited). Using Internet
Explorer, select Internet Options from the Tools menu. In the General tab, you
should see a section called Temporary Internet Files. Choose Delete Files to
remove all cached files. Note that this will clean out everything that has been
stored here, which can be good if you are running low on space, but will slow
down your next access to previously viewed pages as they will need to be
downloaded again.
Similar methods of viewing URLs or cleaning the cache are available with other
browsers. Check your browsers online help for instructions.

Web Site Renewal
Our domain registration is renewed annually in the summer. An attempt will be
made to notify visitors of potential issues related to the
renewal process. Because internet publishing is a fast-changing industry, it is
often in our best interests to change registrars and/or hosting services during
the renewal period. We recognize that this can cause disruptions, but we must make
every effort to minimize our spending in this area and will attempt to keep the
disruptions to a minimum, especially near the start of the school year when our
hit rate is the highest.
Free Email
No longer available through this web site. There are a variety of sources for
free email if you are willing to put up with the internet advertising. To find
one, try going to Google and searching for free email. You'll
probably find more options than you want.

Other email addresses are generally not published on this web site due to the
high volume of spam received by those emails that are published. If you would
like to contact the webmaster or anyone else in the Paloma PTA, send email to
the webmaster with a clear subject (that doesn't look like spam). An effort will
be made to answer or forward your email within two weeks.
Web Site Updates
Updates are made on a sporadic basis as our busy volunteer webmaster finds the
time to make them. Requests for updates are always considered and usually made,
but may take up to 2 weeks to occur, depending on the webmaster's free time (may
take longer during summer months or around holidays). Before contacting the
webmaster about an update that you expected to have occurred, please make sure
you are viewing the most recent version of the web page by refreshing or
cleaning your cache (see known issue above about refresh problems). For main
page updates, refresh should work and the date
of the latest update will now be posted at the bottom of the main page.

the most important tasks, proofreading and information gathering, require no
