I took a vacation day today - of course, it rained all morning so I was bummed out.  Then around 1pm the sun broke through.  Our first stop was Weeden Ln in Jamestown where on a farm we saw cows (of course) but also ibis, ginny hens, and a gannet.  After grabbing a bite to eat we went to Beavertail.  I did see a hawk of some sort, a cormorant, redwing blackbirds, and a bluebird.  On our way back we spotted about six egrets eating what may have been turtles and other fish.  When we reached Narragansett, across from the beach parking lot, we spotted a family of Canadian geese.

So the day turned out pretty good after all.

Even though the weekend was cloudy and wet we managed to have a good time at Roger Williams Zoo.  It's probably been 25 years since I went to the zoo and I have to admit I felt like a kid.  This zoo is really great - plus it offered birds that come from all over this planet.  It was awesome getting so close to Flamingos, as well as two eagles that unfortunately are unable to fly due to an injury.

When the sun broke through at 3pm on Sunday I quickly drove to Trustom.  Got to see the usual, plus goldfinch, tree swallows, towhees, blue jays, kingfisher, a small flock of  cedar waxwing, as well as a couple of chickadees preparing a nest.
