haiku / tiny words / a moment in time

last update:  January 2008

Driving to work
a long and winding country road
a blue jay zips by
Three a.m.
I open my eyes
Orion outside my window
A sudden breeze
acorns rain down
on my head
The black crow caws three times
I quickly leave
the cemetery
The cry of the gulls,
not the crow of the rooster
wakes this seaside town
Overcast...
the robins and finches are silent,
only the mockingbird sings its
perpetual song
the elderly couple
swing dance across the floor
to the tunes of the jazz band
the students, eager to get to class
criss-cross the quad
adjusting their pace to avoid collision
Saturn's companion
a slivered moon
against a painted sunset
two ice cold beers
Dr. John on the jukebox
we celebrate Friday... after 5
Soothing aroma...
memories of grandmother
scent of lavender
A cold winter's day
snow falls silently for hours
Blinding white blanket.
Hiking in forest
log juts from cold stream waters –
it speaks in ripples
Gentle healing hands
comfort the knife-like pain
Massage therapy
on the beach
a tattered shirt
with a pocketful of sand
snapping turtle digs
lays her eggs in the garden
no blooming hollyhocks
clock tower
12:15
24/7
four pair of eyeglasses...
lost and found behind the bar
how did these folks drive home?
Rain
a lone sailboat
only the ripples keep it company
Rough tides
gulls feast on incoming starfish
Beer mugs piled high
bartender begins washing them...
busy night at the beach bar
A walk between two trees
serenaded by birds... in stereo
man...laptop...coffee
lion at watering hole
via world wide web
the hard summer rain
deafening under the tarp
conversations cease
Early morning mist
duck skips upon the water...
splashes... then ripples
A guilty blackbird
perched upon the flower box
steals a blossom... and soars.
The sound of hard rain
is indistinguishable
from crackling fire
What howls at this moon?
Not a fearless coyote--
but blustery winds
Falling leaves dance
swirling and whirling around -
twirling in circles
Warm midsummer night
Fireflies glow in the dark -
nature's hushed fireworks
Flood waters rising
Ubiquitous destruction
Only memories remain
Do not watch the clock.
Breath... Still... just for the moment
Time will then slow down.
The coo of the dove -
for whom does he mourn today?
Haunting melody.
The robin's sweet song
singing springs arrival.
Nature's messenger
A summer rain storm
droplets pound and wash the earth.
Ah! Clean and refreshed.
Iridescent bubbles
like miniature planets
float aimlessly through space
Bright red Volkswagen
bearing antique license plates -
makes me feel quite old.
A placard displays
"will work for food or money."
Homeless and alone.
Holst... Planets, and more
powerful masterpieces
Vivaldi...Seasons
The sky, sea and me
What do we have in common?
Today I am blue.
