Spring

Patiently, we wait.

We wait through the long, cold, colorless winter.

Dead and colorless - except for an occasional white blanket.

And if we're lucky, a bright red cardinal may make a rare, unexpected visit to cheer us during an otherwise cheerless season.

We wait, not noticing the brewing anticipation building up in all our senses;
since the scent of the pine tree that we decorated months ago,
no longer lingers in our home.

Finally, it arrives.
We smile an inward smile that can’t be seen but only felt.

We smile outwardly, with a grin that starts slowly and grows until it is too big to contain.

It begins with early morning happy songs sung by robins, cardinals, finches and warblers all returning… all glad to be back.

Then nature's artist carefully paints a beautiful canvas that awakens our senses

Golden yellow daffodils that frame the roads we travel.

Colorful crocus dot the garden.

The unforgettable fragrance of the lilac that stirs up fond memories.

The scent of new green grass being mowed.

Yes …Spring has arrived.
