The Cemetery

The cemetery that I haunt offers a
wide variety of birds to watch and photograph.
It is home to woodpeckers and blue jays,
chickadees, herons and hawks
and birds I've yet to identify

I'm rarely alone during my excursions to this eerie place
sometimes
folks stand by a gravestone to pay respect or
perhaps to visit a loved one that they dearly miss
sometimes
  folks walk their dogs
sometimes
folks walk around for exercise while plugged in to their i-pods
sometimes
folks sit near a gravestone to read or to write...
because I believe that the spirit's creative energy fills the air
and an artist can soak up this energy
sometimes
I expect the cemetery to be dead silent -
yet the incessant barking from the neighborhood dogs
  makes for an unpleasant visit
sometimes
I am spooked...like the time a breeze caused acorns
to rain upon my head, and.... wait!  what's that sound?...
is it human?  animal?  bye...time for me to go.
