The Papillion
Gun Club's first shoot was held Saturday, December 8, 1923 on
grounds west of Will Cordes' home in the Northwest part of Papillion.
It started at 10AM with geese and ducks as prizes. Two traps were in
use.
The second shoot was held Sunday, January 31, 1924 but the County
Attorney acting upon complaint of noise, issued an order to halt the
shoot and Sheriff Olderog came out and ordered the sportsmen to
cease fire. Another reason given for the order was that it was
presumably unlawful to shoot blue rocks on the Sabbath.
The official organization papers for the Papillion Gun Club were
filed in 1923 or early 1924. The Club start was informal with about
25 sportsmen on hand for the initial event.
Today we have a new clubhouse with full kitchen, bar, and restroom
facilities built in 2000 which is available for rent. Our active
membership of approximately 120 members enjoy the clubhouse and our six automatic,
voice activated "Pat-Traps" for Trap shooting. We offer open shooting for
our members, four annual meat shoots which are open to the public,
trap shooting leagues, practice times for several local youth trap
shooting teams, and firearm safety classes.
