Colonel John Wise IV had Major John Wise, whose son Henry Alexander Wise was an orator and member of Congress as a Jackson Democrat. He was Governor of Virginia during the "John Brown Raid". He followed General Lee when the sword was drawn, and, in spite of his advanced age, served the entire four years at Appomatox. His son, John Seargent Wise, carried the message of General Lee to Davis, just before Appomatox.
Colonel John Wise IV, and a cousin, Johnathon Wise, were in the Revolutionary War in General Washington's Life Body Guard. Colonel John was a "crack shot" and could snuff a candle at ten paces. At the close of the war, Captain Jonathon Wise returned to Virginia and Colonel John Wise settled in Genmantown, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia, and married into a German family. His son, William Washington Wise, married into a German family, moved to McAllisterville, Pennsylvania, where his son, Emanual Wise, was born. The above, William Washington Wise, served full time in the war of 1812, and his son, William Washington Wise, was in the Mexican War. His son Emanuel, was also in the Mexican War.
