The Paramount Jazz Band appearance at our 2005 festival was a real "reunion" for the band. During the 2-3 year hiatus when they were out of sight, they were never out of mind for their followers. They came together here last year and played spectacularly. It would be tantamount to a National disaster for this band to say in limbo. Hence, we are bringing them back, keeping them visible and contributing to trad lovers bliss. It will be another magnificent reunion for all of us. Nobody plays it better than Paramount. Jazz in the Olympics, 2006 advertisement. "THE PARAMOUNT JAZZ BAND OF BOSTON superbly performed exciting arrangements, and the group sounded better than ever". "SACRAMENTO MUSICAL HIGHLIGHTS....we were impressed, first and foremost, with drummer Ray Smiths' PARAMOUNT JAZZ BAND OF BOSTON...the two reed, cornet, no trombone ensemble style of the Paramount Jazz Band quickly gathered a huge following..." "THE PARAMOUNT JAZZ BAND OF BOSTON...refreshing repertoire...memorable, memorable!" "THE PARAMOUNT JAZZ BAND OF BOSTON.... jazz performance near perfection!" "RAY SMITH...one of the nations' most knowledgeable jazz historians (host of 'THE JAZZ DECADES' on Boston's' WGBH for over 20 years), has put together a band that won't knock you down with raw power or stage charisma. They'll merely kill you with great music and solid musicianship ..beautiful arrangements ..top drawer.." "...one of the things that impressed me was the great reaction you got from the audience. THE PARAMOUNT JAZZ BAND is just excellent; you should be very proud." "Boston's' PARAMOUNT JAZZ BAND hit hard again with their giant repertoire of obscure but hot jazz songs...97 of them...never repeated one during the three-day jazz festival..." "I think THE PARAMOUNT JAZZ BAND is phenomenal; I love your music; I love your attitude. I think you are all fabulous people and I would be honored to have the PARAMOUNT with us again!" "When thinking of cities with a jazz reputation, Boston does not readily spring to mind but, had this really impressive group been around, say forty or fifty years ago, it may well have been a different story..." "This band has been called 'a musician's jazz band.' If you look to the back of the audience, you will witness many musicians watching the performance.....In the course of the festival, you will never hear the same song played twice. They probably have the largest book of tunes of any band at the festival...A wonderful band, you won't be able to keep your feet still when they play." |
