Congress Today and Yesterday

Recycling Program

Compare & Contrast the First Congress and Present Day Congress

Politics- Politics back then were about slaves, land disputes, freedom, and women’s rights and the Congress today is about world issues.  The similarities of both Congresses is that they make decisions that affect the American people and they still deal with freedom. Each official is elected to their positions.

Culture- The people in the First Congress are a gentleman and wore a wig, no ladies were allowed to hold positions in the Congress and they could not vote.  Different cultures were treated differently. Today our Congress has technology issues.  The similarities is that their attire is still formal, to show the people that they mean business.

Religion- The First Congress was pro religion and was a huge part of the officials lives.  Our Congress today is anti-religious.  The similarities are that they still swear on the Bible and we still use in God we trust.

Vocational- The First Congress was made up of Clergy men and priests.  Today, they are lawyers and politicians.  The similarities are they both have families.

Socio-economics- The First Congress debated who got farm lands and property.  Today, they talk about gas prices and stocks.  The similarities are the over all goodness of people.

Major World Issue:  The First Congress dealt with England and colonies and today we deal with keeping the peace.  The similarities are world terrorism and war.

Recycling Program

We think that there should be four groups. The groups should be publicity, set-up, tear-down, and accountanting. The publicity group will advertise the recycling program to students around the school. They will do this by announcing it over the TV, in the newspaper, and in the bathroom stalls. The second group is the set-up group. This group will set-up all the recycling areas on the school campus for snack and lunch. All the people participating in set-up and tear-down will receive community service hours. The next group is the tear-down group. These people will take the recycling material to the recycling center. They will also give the money received from the recycling center to the accountants. The accountant group will count the money and make sure that the program is not losing nor gaining money. This is why the people in this program receive community service hours.

The students who donate their recycling material to this program receive different amounts of money, depending on what they donate. The prices range from $0.01 to any amount, depending on quantity of goods given. This program would work because the students are receiving money, while the people helping are receiving community service hours. Also, we (the leaders) receive money for the expenditures of the project. Also the community is being benefited by a lack of trash.
