John R. Paulson is a producer, director, editor, and cinematographer. His specialty is the documentary form with a particular emphasis on history, the arts, and films that present the cultural traditions of the world. His production company, John Paulson Productions, develops and produces television projects, and provides film and video production services for television broadcast, museum exhibition, home video, DVD, and digital delivery.
For twelve years Mr. Paulson was employed by Smithsonian Productions, the media production group of the Smithsonian Institution, where he photographed, edited, and directed a continuous stream of highly regarded programs on an extraordinary breadth of subjects.

1989 – 2002 Filmmaker, Smithsonian Productions, Washington, DC Smithsonian Productions (closed in 2002) was the Institution’s central media production unit where Mr. Paulson worked with scholars, curators, and production partners to develop programs for national television and radio broadcast, museum exhibition, DVD, Web, and digital distribution.
1985 – 1989 Producer/Writer, WSIL-TV (ABC), Harrisburg, IL Mr. Paulson was responsible for the production of documentary-style programs and commercial advertising campaigns. He developed advertising plans and documentary program ideas; researched and wrote scripts; directed live newscasts, live studio programs, and location shooting with professional talent; and directed post-production.

Producing, Directing, and Program Development: Mr. Paulson's knowledge of filmmaking runs deep.
