Dachshunds are more than just pretty faces.  These dogs can hunt!

Field Trials are run in a similar fashion to Beagle Brace Trials.  Dachshunds are run in braces of two dogs and are judged primarily on their accuracy in trailing a rabbit.  In Field Trials, the dogs compete against each other for placements and points toward their championships.  Successful dogs earn an FC (Field Champion) title in front of their names on AKC records.

Dogs having both Field and Conformation championships (Dual Champion) have DC in front of their names.

Alex (DC Penni's Double Jeopardy, CGC).  Alex was the first Dual Champion male longhair in the Southeastern US.

If you're keeping track, the following Dual Champions are all from the same litter.  (We have a hard time not mentioning that!)  Oh, and by the way, the other two kids from this litter are Conformation Champions!  (Alex's sister Matty was their mother - and Number 2 Top Producing for 2002 - with just this 1 Litter!)

  • Megan (DC Penni's Mega Byte) Number 1 Top Producing for 2003 (Dick & Jane Litter)
  • Topper (DC Penni's Laptop, CD, JE, VC, CGC)
  • Digit  (DC Penni's Digital Image) Number 2 Top Producing for 2004 (Pepper Litter)
  • Simm (DC Penni's Hard Drive)

I just have to include this next picture.  Rose was the mother & grandmother of the entire crew.

Rose is on the right and Topper is on the left.  Rose, at 12 years old, had just won Winner's bitch, while Topper (her grandson) won Winner's dog, and best Open dog.  That's Larry Innes (Topper's owner) and myself as handlers.

Just a girl and her dog.
