Short Track Railroad
(STRR)

The Short Track Railroad (Formally ShortTrakN Railroad) was begun in 1991 by 4 people living in San Diego County, California. Their initial goal was to build and take NTRAK modules to the National Model Railroad Association (NMRA), 1992 Pacific Southwest Region (PSR) annual convention. The convention that year was held in Laughlin, Nevada. Eight modules were built consisting of four 4 foot straight and four 3 foot corners to form a 10 foot by 10 foot setup. The group met in the back of SHORTS HOBBIES operated by Marilyn Short. In appreciation of Marilyn's generosity for providing meeting space the railroad was named in her honor. After a successful showing at the Laughlin PSR convention, the club grew and began to exhibit the railroad at local schools, churches, and retirement homes, in other regional conventions and at the 1996 NMRA National convention held in Long Beach, California. The club has regularly attended local Great American Train Shows (GATS) and has won 6 first place and 2 second place standings to date.

NOTE: The Short Track Railroad will NOT be running during the 2008 San Diego County Fair in Del Mar California.

The Short Track Railroad Today (Formally ShortTrakN Railroad)

The Short Track Railroad is an educational organization that seeks to further the appreciation of railroad history in the United States. Our model railroaders recreate the era when the "Super Chief", "Daylight" and "Twentieth Century Limited" ruled the rails as the premier pasenger trains of the nation. We tell the story of the trains from the famed "Jupiter" steam engines of the Old West up to the modern, high-tech diesels that are in use today. Why don't you join us for an exciting journey into the world of...N-Scale Model Railroading! Today the Short Track Railroad consists of 30+ club members and over 40+ modules to choose for display. You are not required to own a module to participate as a member. Many members are proud to be NMRA members too. The railroad is displayed at many shows through out the year. You can also visit our home layout at the Antique Gas and Steam Engine Musueum in Vista, CA. (North Santa Fe Avenue) Stop by after 7:00 PM on any Thursday or Saturday mornings after 9:00 AM.
