Vulcanite Pens

In the days before
synthetic plastics, from the 1850's until the 1920's, Vulcanite and Ebonite (hard
rubber) was the most popular material for pens. This was the
first material that involved a distinct chemical modification of a
natural material. Ebonite/Vulcanite is manufactured by
hardening natural rubber to create an extremely durable substance that
has a softer, "warmer" feel to it than today's replacement
plastics.
The pens below are made from real Cumberland Vulcanite from Germany,
as so many of the classic, collectible pens from famous makers were
before the 1920's.

This fine ballpoint pen is made from Cumberland Ebonite (hard rubber)
and has beautiful terra cota colored "grain" running through
a brown background. It is set off by contrasting stripes at the nib
and the finial ends. This pen has life-time gold-plated titanium
fittings with a nicely etched center band and a high-quality, smooth
Schmidt twist mechanism. Accepts any Parker-compatible ballpoint
or gel refill.

Champagne and Pearls
