BACKGROUND: Each year the Shrine of North America provides eight to ten talks outlining "the great philanthropy". Some are specifically written for presentation to Shrine groups. Others are for delivery to civic organization and two or three provide basic information that can be elaborated upon for delivery as a full summary of how philanthropy is necessary to supplement governmental assistance to the public.
CONTENT:
Colonel Straub excerpts information from the outlines referenced above and elaborates on how philanthropies fit into the sociological structure of our society. As a result, he has a standing request to speak to Sociology classes from high school to university level where he explains how the Shrine of North America and other philanthropies are organized to meet and gain tax exempt status and why the government sees fit to allow exemption from taxation. On other occasions he is asked to speak to audiences who know little about the Shrine, but, wish to join in the treatment of Burned and Crippled Children. For example, last year Colonel Straub traveled to New Orleans and presented a talk to 300 auctioneers who promptly presented him a $50,000 check for Shriner's Hospitals for Burned and Crippled Children. The next week he lectured and conducted a lively question and answer session regarding philanthropies and their worth with less than 40 Sociology students at the University of West Florida. SCHEDULING: Several Shriner's affiliated with Straub Lectures and Colonel Straub are available to present the eight or so talks specifically written for presentation to Shrine groups. Only Colonel Straub delivers lectures to other than Shrine groups. |
