This photo shows the
original facade being stripped off of the old N&W passenger
station in preparation for the complete remodeling undertaken by the
world famous industrial designer Raymond Loewy.

The station's original
architecture was in some ways more intricate and ornate than what
would follow. This photo was taken in 1909.

The rear of the station
was a maze of porches, covered stairways and even a ramp leading into
the city market area across the tracks.

The Virginia Brewing Co.
was one of Roanoke's finest beer producers in the 1890's.

The Olde Virginia
Brewery shown here manufactured "Olde Virginia" brand beer, and their
cans and bottles can still be found today in antique shops in the
area.
