Sun Valley Swim Club was situated at the sharp curve on Virginia 116 just before it begins its climb up Windy Gap mountain. The pool (and campground) opened in 1955, and was a popular summer destination for many Roanokers. The pool was sold to the city in 1977 and survived until 1982.
