In 1890, it was known as
the Trout House, later it became the Ponce de Leon Hotel. It would be
destroyed by fire in December of 1931. Notice the semaphore traffic
control in the intersection.

The Lee-Hy Auto Court,
one of three motor courts along Brandon Avenue, was a victim of
interstate 81, but it remained in use until the 1990's.

The Rockledge Inn atop
Mill Mountain, in this view the addition at the rear is visible. This
was removed by the time the Playhouse came into being.

Looking West from where
the passenger station stands today, you see the original passenger
and freight station located in between the tracks. The many saloons
and businesses on Norfolk Ave. are visible to the left, and Hotel
Roanoke is on the right.

This view of the Hotel
Roanoke shows the American Legion Auditorium to the right. Williamson
Road was rerouted in this area after the building was destroyed by
fire.
