Five Valley Teams Blast-Off to the Honeywell Fiesta Bowl Aerospace Challenge presented by The Arizona Republic Finals

Tempe, AZ - Nearly 300 fifth through eighth grade students from across Arizona participated in the preliminaries of the Honeywell Fiesta Bowl Aerospace Challenge presented by The Arizona Republic yesterday. The contest is designed to promote the knowledge of space and science technology through the development of a “new” generation International Space Station complete with a physical scale model. Participating students worked in teams of five to create their designs and presented them to Honeywell engineers .

Now in its sixth year, the Honeywell Fiesta Bowl Aerospace Challenge presented by The Arizona Republic has quickly grown amongst teachers and students. This year’s preliminaries were moved to the beautiful and spacious ASU at the West Campus to accommodate for the competition’s rapid success.

Five finalist teams were selected at the end of the day to take place in the event finals at the Challenger Space Center in Peoria on Wednesday, December 29, where NASA Astronauts will be on hand to interact with students and answer questions. Additionally, each finalist team will receive a Challenger Space Center Simulated Mission for their classrooms, while the first place team at the finals will be treated to an exclusive VIP trip to the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas for a behind the scenes look at NASA facilities.
