Event and judging begins at 8:30 a.m.
Who:
Fifth through eighth grade students from across the state of Arizona.
Why:
Approximately 300 students will present their ideas for a new generation of the International
Space Station.
Prizes:
The top five teams will win a Challenger Space Center Simulated Space Mission for their classrooms and plaques for their schools. They will also be invited to compete in the finals, on Wednesday Dec. 29, at the Challenger Space Center in Peoria. The first place winner at the finals will win a VIP trip to the Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX, for an exclusive look at a NASA launch facility.
Over 300 fifth through eighth grade students from across the state of Arizona will compete in the Honeywell Fiesta Bowl Aerospace Challenge presented by The Arizona Republic at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 6. The event, which has grown quickly amongst Arizona students and teachers, will hold its preliminaries at the ASU at the West Campus this year to accommodate for its rapid success.
The contest is designed to enhance knowledge of space and science technology through the development of a “new” generation International Space Station. Teams must construct a physical scale model and provide supporting materials with scientific explanations.
The students will present their entries to scientific engineering experts from Honeywell.
