McDowell Village project continues to move forward
On December 6th, the construction bid award for the Senior Center Building is scheduled for Council approval. This $8.5M award will construct a 37,500 square-foot Senior Center. This construction award will also complete all of the improvements to the city's property for parking and landscape with only the Stagebrush Theater left to build. Construction will begin in January 2005 with the building scheduled to open in Fall 2005. The senior housing (223 units of senior-only apartments) is also moving forward. It is very close to receiving building permits and the land sale for both the housing and the retail parcel is expected to close by December 10th. Apartment construction will also start in January with the first units open in the fall of 2005. At the same time, the retail building is in the Development Review process. It is anticipated that retail construction will start in the summer with a winter 2005/06 opening date. For more information, visit www.scottsdaleaz.gov/smittys/
