PHOENIX Arizona LAUNCHES IMPROVED WEB SITE
Phoenix Arizona Launches Improved Web Site
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dec. 22, 2004
Getting information about the city and city services will get a little easier in the New Year, with the launch of the redesigned phoenix.gov Web site.
Debuting Tuesday, Jan. 4, the home page and other top-level pages included in the redesign will feature improved navigation with enhanced content that will be more user-friendly for city of Phoenix customers. The redesign is the result of more than two years of research, including focus groups with citizens and city employees, on how to provide greater access to, and participation in, city government. Eventually, more than 20,000 pages of city information and services on phoenix.gov will have the new navigation and look.
The reorganization uses a Web content management system that will help automate the delivery of new and updated information to the public. In mid-2004, the city's Aviation Department became the first to use the new content management system.
Visitors to phoenix.gov will be able to find information and use online city services by accessing seven primary menus available from the home page and a navigation banner on all pages.
The seven menus are:
Discover Phoenix
Residents
Businesses
City Government
Employment
Youth and Seniors
e-Services
Each section will be organized by key topics that are among the most frequently used by the public. Users also will find topic-based related links and "I Want To" information boxes on all top-level pages within the newly reorganized site.
"This effort ensures that citizens and the public will have access to city government on their terms, any time of day or night, seven days a week, 365 days a year," said Danny Murphy, Phoenix's Chief Information Officer. "We want to continue providing the highest level of online services and information possible."
The reorganization of phoenix.gov is expected to continue throughout 2005. The effort is a part of the city's ongoing commitment to make Phoenix more accessible to citizens and the general public using the latest available technology.
