DISPOSING OF HAZARDS THE RIGHT WAY CAN KEEP STORM SEWERS CLEAN

DISPOSING OF HAZARDS THE RIGHT WAY CAN KEEP STORM SEWERS CLEAN
It's been a wet winter in Scottsdale and that means the city's storm sewers are working hard to keep streets and other areas safe from flooding.
Residents can help this effort by appropriately disposing of both debris and hazardous waste.
Rainwater travels via the storm drain system which flows into our local parks, basins and waterways without receiving any formal treatment.
Pollutants such as trash, sediment, motor oil, fertilizers, pesticides, etc. are washed off of streets, parking lots, and lawns into the storm sewer system. From there these pollutants can make their way into local waterways such as community lakes, parks, basins and rivers.
The Stormwater Outreach for Regional Municipalities group, known as STORM, is a regional organization promoting stormwater quality education within the greater Phoenix metropolitan area.
