TEMPE, Ariz. - The city of Tempe is sponsoring a free competitive art event where children use chalk to create sidewalk masterpieces. The Youthfest Event, "Chalk-It-Up," begins with team registration from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on March 5 at Kiwanis Park, 6005 S. All American Way.

Prize winners in four categories will be announced at 3:15 p.m. at the Walmart Entertainment Stage. Categories are:

* Best of Youthfest
* Best Design
* Most Original
* Best of Tempe/Teens (top three places will receive gift certificates to an art supply store.)

Participants can enter with a team of two to 10 members. Each entry will be given chalk supplies and sidewalk space to Chalk-It-Up. Students, youth groups, friends, church groups, families and other teens are invited to color the walks with chalk.

Chalk-It-Up, has been featured at many events across the nation as a positive way to help foster individual and creative imagination. Children and teenagers also learn the importance of teamwork and sharing while working together to create a masterpiece with chalk.
