Community Spirit Program named finalist in volunteerism awards

The City of Mesa's Community Spirit Program is one of three finalists in
the Community Sustainer category for the 2005 Awards for Excellence in
Corporate Volunteerism. The awards are being presented by the Volunteer
Center of Maricopa County, The Business Journal and the Arizona Small
Business Administration. The winner will be announced on Thursday, April
21 during an awards luncheon at the Pointe South Mountain Resort. The
keynote speaker will be Susan Ellis, a renowned authority on volunteerism,
who will speak on "Corporate volunteerism: Staying on the cutting edge."

The City of Mesa Community Spirit Program was formed in 1997 as a unified
method for employees to give back to the community in which they serve.
Since then, employees have raised more than $2.2 million to benefit local
charities. Adding in contributions from 1991 until the current program
officially started, the total is more than $2.9 million. The program also
provides other opportunities for involvement, including food drives,
adopting families during the holidays, helping students improve their
reading skills and donating school supplies during back-to-school drives.

located and got down on his knee to propose.
