Junior Achievement of Arizona Names Four New Business Entrepreneurs to Its Arizona Business Hall of Fame
TEMPE, Ariz Oct. 5, 2005--Junior Achievement of Arizona has selected four Arizona business leaders to be inducted into the 2005 Arizona Business Hall of Fame at a dinner and awards ceremony to be held on Friday, Nov. 4, 2005, at the Biltmore Resort and Spa in Scottsdale.
Attendees will enjoy an evening of fine dining filled with music and entertainment by renowned trumpet player, Jesse McGuire. Presenters will include Don Henniger, publisher of The Business Journal, and children who have been impacted by Junior Achievement programs.
Since 1987, the Arizona Business Hall of Fame has honored men and women who have made outstanding contributions to free enterprise and society. The Arizona Business Hall of Fame recognizes outstanding Arizona business leaders who have had a significant impact on the Arizona economy through both business achievements and civic involvement and serve as role models and inspiration to our youth.
The laureates selected for 2005 have set new standards for future business leaders, have demonstrated business excellence, courageous thinking and actions, visions and innovation, inspirational leadership, philanthropic acts and community mindedness. This year's inductees to the Arizona Business Hall of Fame are: John Bouma, Snell & Wilmer, L.L.P.; Slivy Edmonds-Cotton, entrepreneur and community leader; Augustin (Gus) Hernandez, Hernandez Companies Inc.; and Rod McMullin, SRP (posthumously).
Arizona Business Hall of Fame laureates are presented with the Star Stream, carved from Steuben Crystal, as a symbol of their accomplishments and vision. Sponsors of this year's event include BlueCross BlueShield, APS, Bank One, The Business Journal, Molina Fine Jewelers and Wells Fargo.
An independent committee comprised of historians, educators and business leaders selects the laureates. The following is the criteria by which each laureate is selected:
1. Must have demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit and management skills by founding a business and leading it to economic prominence in Arizona, or must have led a business through crisis, expansion or change to economic prominence.
2. Must have successfully applied managerial and leadership skills to community or public service, or shared economic resources with the community through philanthropy.
3. Accomplishments, conduct and reputation must provide an appropriate role model for youth.
4. Must have achieved a high level of respect within the business community.
5. Accomplishments must be of an enduring nature. They should demonstrate the economic and social benefits that are derived from the rewards of innovation, quality, service and efficiency under free enterprise economics.
