APS Electric Light Parade to Proceed Down New Route for 2005
For the 19th straight year, the APS Electric Light Parade will bring a dazzling display of lighted floats and costumes to central Phoenix. For the first time, the 2005 APS Electric Light Parade will proceed along a new route. More than 65 entries, from brilliantly lighted floats to musical and dance performance groups, will grace the new parade route.
This year’s parade, themed “Lights! Camera! Magic!” will begin at 7 p.m. on Saturday, December 3 and proceed along the new “zig zag” parade route established to accommodate Light Rail construction. Starting just south of Bethany Home Road, the 2005 parade will proceed south on Central Avenue to Camelback Road, then head east to 7th Street where it will turn south to the end point north of Indian School Road.
Up to 200,000 spectators are expected to view the gala along the parade route.
All entries in the APS Electric Light Parade – even individuals in performance groups who walk the route – are decorated in holiday lights. In years past, some entries have sported more than 50,000 lights. In addition to the floats, performance groups and bands also will take part.
The Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department produces the APS Electric Light Parade.
