Also known as: Beltane, Bealtaine, May Day.
First day of Summer.
The name Beltaine is Celtic and means
"festival of Bel". The more commonly seen Beltane is
the Gaelic version of the name.
Date: May 1 or 15 degrees Taurus.
Seasonal Importance: Animal mating time.
Plants are growing strong. The world is warm. The veil thins
again and fairies may be present.
Activities: Sympathetic fertility magick
in the form of symbolic sex (maypole dancing, May games) and
actual sex (the Great Rite). The Sacred Marriage of the Goddess
and the God. May baskets, the making of festival wreathes.
Celebrating the creative force; rituals concerning bringing to
manifestation.
