Also known as: Imbolg, Oimelc, Brigid's Day, Feast of Lights (Candlemas). Groundhog's Day. First day of Spring.

The name Imbolg means "in the belly" and "Oimelc (ee'-melk) means "ewe's milk" both of which refer to this as a festival of Pregnancy, Birth and Lactation.

Date: February 1 or 15 degrees Aquarius.

Seasonal Importance: First renewal of life. First signs of spring. First indication that the light is truly returning to the earth (beginning of the waxing of the Sun God's power). Hope, beginnings.

Activities: Candle-lighting. Bringing new fire into the house. Lighting the way for the Goddess’ return. Dressing the Bride's Bed. Women's mysteries of birth and menstruation and rites of passage into womanhood.
