Also known as: Midwinter, Jul (Christmas), Festival of Lights. Middle of Winter. Winter Solstice.

The name Yule means "Wheel" in Norse. Yule is the Norse New Year. Within the Nest of the Phoenix, Yule is also the festival when we celebrate the rebirth of the Phoenix Rising.

Date: Approximately December 21, 0 degrees Capricorn.

Seasonal Importance: The longest night. Focus on the light which will return. Rebirth of the Sun God. The promise of new life in Spring. Celtic Festival of the Stars, Mithra’s Birthday, Osiris’ return to Isis in Egypt, La Vecchio de Natali in Italy, the Roman Saturnalia (the Sun God's birth in many ancient traditions).

Activities: Giving gifts, lighting candles and fires (Yule log) to honor the newborn sun. Wassailing, mistletoe, mummer's plays, storytelling. Rituals of birth and rebirth. Within the Grove we celebrate the Rebirth of the Phoenix and the renewal of the Nest of the Phoenix and the renewal of the Grove.
