"To me, Jack not only typified what
a defensive end is, he also typified
what a football player is. If a Martian
landed in my backyard, knocked on my
door and asked me 'What's a football
player?'I'd go get Jack Youngblood."

                       ~ John Madden, Coach

" I consider him a phenomenal football player.
I'd have to give Youngblood the vote as the
best defensive player I ever competed against"

~ Roger Staubach, Dallas Cowboys QB

" The Rams front four is the best I ever faced.
I've got to say that Youngblood was nice enough
to pick me up every time he knocked my ass off."

~ Archie Manning, New Orleans Saints QB

"Jack Youngblood.
He's the John Wayne
of football."

~ Jim Hanifan, coach

"I remember Jack being a good guy. He was
just a good ole' nice guy until he hit you.
Then he acted like he felt bad, he'd help you
up, dust you off, and then hit you even harder
the next time around. He was a fierce competitor."

~ Danny White, Dallas Cowboys QB

One of my favorite memories about Jack: After the RAMS beat Dallas in the playoff game in 1979, KMPC urged real fans to go to the airport that night and greet
their incredible team.  So I went!  It was around midnight and there were about 100 diehard fans there, along with local newscaster, Jim Hill.
Jack was nice enough to roll down his window and talk to the fans as his truck crept along.  We all knew he was in pain from his broken leg, and yet there
he was, taking the time to greet his fans...he was just so cool.  If more of today's NFL, NBA, etc. "stars" had the class this man had, sports
today would be in a much better place.  It was about time they put Jack in the Hall of Fame.  I'll never forget driving my daughter to school when I
first heard about it... I was channel jumping when all of a sudden I heard Jack's voice talking.  I recognized it in an instant, even though it had been
years since I had heard Jack speak.  I turned up the volume and with tears in my eyes, I thought, "It's about damn time."

JACK YOUNGBLOOD QUOTES

"Boy, I'll tell you, when the Rams drafted me No. 1, it surprised me. I was walking on air for days."

"Deacon Jones has been the most inspirational person in my football career."

"I don't talk to defensive linemen in general."

" I visualize things in my mind before I have to do them. It's like having a mental workshop."

"Merlin really taught me how to concentrate, that you play each play as if it were the only play."

"The joy of winning is not as dramatic as the losses were, because I expected us to win."

"You learnt that, whatever you are doing in life, obstacles don't matter very much. Pain or other consequences can be there,

but if you want to do a job bad enough, you'll find a way to get it done."
