Three Reasons Why You Should
Choose the Design on the Car Kit Box
So many people choose the design on the box. Perhaps you should, too.
Here are my top three reasons for choosing the design on the Grand Prix Pinewood Derby Kit box.
- Choose it because it's a difficult design to implement, especially for a first-timer.
This design has about as much sawing, cutting, and carving as most that you'll see. You'll enjoy the challenge of getting that "tail fin" in the back exactly straight. And you'll probably get to use a chisel or even a router to carve out the driver area and the area behind it. Better yet, you can buy a dado blade for that table saw you've been wanting. All part of your "basic Cub Scout carpentry".
And if you thought cutting it out was challenging, wait until you start sanding! Smoothing those inset areas is especially fun. There are hours and hours of satisfying work to be found here.
- Choose it because it's a slow design.
This design is difficult to backweight, and doing so might result in a higher-than-optimal center of gravity. If you can finish first with this design, then you have certainly proved that you are a master craftsman. If not, then it's obvious to everyone that you know that there are more important things in life than competing. Either way you're a winner.
- Choose it simply because it's the easiest one to choose.
There are plenty of places to find ideas for car designs, especially on the Internet. There are plenty of people who are willing to share their thoughts about car design and car construction. You could probably occupy yourself for days exploring the possibilities.
Life is just too short to spend on that sort of thing.
