Submission Guidelines for Isle Madame Photo Archive
I will accept any format of graphic file created by scanner or digital camera. Email me the file or a zip archive of several files at once. I will index the photo with a thumbnail 120 pixels wide and provide links to one or two sizes of the picture, depending on how large the source is.
Digital cameras tend to create 4:3 aspect ratio pictures, just like your computer screen. A reasonably large picture on the screen with file size under 32K bytes is 640x480 pixels. Some of the more expensive digital cameras, so-called "Mega-Pixel" cameras, like Bob Martell's, can produce an image 1280x960 pixels and would completely fill most screens when viewed. This makes for quite a show for your enjoyment, but you must really use a 17" or larger monitor to enjoy. If you print the 640x480 file, you get a reasonable picture, but not as good as the 1280x960 when reduced to fit the paper, especially with photo-quality paper. Examples of these picture sizes are found Summit Dinner pictures.
The default setting for pictures viewable in a browser is 72 DPI. I will convert all pictures to that density when I get them to favor screen viewing. I will then create JPEG files, or compressed graphic files, which are easily viewed using your web browser. The files will also be "optimized" for a smaller size while retaining image quality. I recommend that the pictures be viewed on the screen, rather than printing. After downloading, just drag the file onto an open browser window. There are numerous picture cataloging shareware programs which can create slide shows. I will leave you on your own with that.
Please include in your email a description of the picture with the full names of the people and any other information on the location, date taken, etc.
Send your pictures to pivind@cox.net.
Thanks for giving us a view of our cousins and the places they live!
