When & Where

The main portion of the event will begin at 9:30AM on Saturday the 25th. We are 90% sure to use a school in Reston, VA. We will be there on Friday the 8th setting up and people are welcome to stop by. Those who come early will probably go out to eat Friday night. Pjay is trying to set up a listening session at a high end manufacturer for Frisday night, but this is secret so don't tell anyone.

Purpose

The event is show-and-tell and is open to everyone. The theme of this year's event is high efficiant speakers. The idea is smooth impedence, impedence above 8 ohms, high efficiancy.

We will have a small opinion form (see "judging form") the crowd can use to comment on the speakers. The builder can decide for himself/herself if they want to read them. There will most likely be some small awards for the crowd favorites.

Attendees

This event usually draws 40-60 people and about 20 pairs of speakers. We will set up an attendee list and directions when we get closer to the event.

Formats and Categories

The general format will be to listen to all speakers with 5-8 minutes of a variety of pre-recorded music and then the owner can play one short piece. Once all speakers have been heard we will go back and re-audition interesting units. You do not have to bring a speaker to attend.

Rules, Judging and Prizes

1. This is a public event and event hosts, sponsors and participants cannot be held liable for damages or losses to persons, entries or equipment.

2. This is a volunteer social event and intended for the education and enjoyment of the participants. We all recognize there are numerous shortcomings in auditioning and measuring speakers in an event like this. The goal is to have fun and learn what we can in the alloted time.

3. Commercial designs (kits, etc.) are welcome. Please let us know if your entry is a kit or home designed.

4. General auditioning will not be blind this year. It was a major hassle in 2001 and we are not sure it added much. A volunteer participant will do speaker changes. All speakers will be placed in the same location and directed to the same sweet spot by hand.

5. All speakers should have binding posts that can accept banana plugs.

6. Judging will be done with a SS system. This is not TAS or Stereophile testing. We will use the equipment we have and try to be consistent.

7. We hope someone brings prizes but there are no guarantees.

Other Details

There will be free time to allow us to talk and work on ideas.

Presentations will be on Saturday morning. We will block some time for critical listening Saturday afternoon. There will be refreshments.
