Descendants of Friedrich Wilhelm Kienow/Wilhelmine C. Vorpohl (Vorpahl)

These are the founders of the "Nebraska" Kienows. According Friedrich Wilhelm's obiturary, they were married in 1868 and came to America that same year. The obituary for Friedrich Wilhelm (Fred William) provides evidence that they came through Rolling Prairie, Wisconsin and the connection to the "Burnett" Kienows. The note from Dorothy Kienow Christiansen identifies them with the "South Dakota" Kienows and provides the location of Wilhelmine's birth as Cramonsdorf. There is a Kramonsdorf near Daber. His brother Ferdinand is recorded as being born in Weidenhagen bi Daber, Pommer. This is near Meesow so we are back to the same general area of Pommern from where other Kienows have emigrated. Additionally, there was a Vorpahl mentioned in the Collin Church Records.

The birth and death of their daughter, Ida Johanne Auguste Kienow, in Rolling Prairie, Wisconsin in August 1879 provides the connection to the "Burnett" Kienows. The church record identifies sponsors as: Johanna Keske Schoeder, Auguste Kienow and Johann Kunde. This information about Ida enables us to make the connection between the Nebraska Kienows and the Schroeders and Kundes from Beaver Dam. We should thank Mary Ellen Schroeder who researched the records from St. Johannes Church in Burnette WI. and provided this important information. The records from St. Johannes are now in Beaver Dam at a Lutheran church. You can view those provided by Mary Ellen at: Kienow/Zarling

Friedrich Wilhelm had a sister, Louise, who's second husband was another early settler, Ferdinand Scheer. She was his second wife and they married late in life. They were both 66 years old. They must have been good friends. Liz Weich has posted the obituary for Ferdinand Scheer on the web, and given permission for it to be posted here.
